It’s been a week of chaos for the Friars. In Providence’s exhibition game last Saturday against Rhode Island College, starting point guard Kris Dunn injured his shoulder, most likely sidelining him for the opener against the Eagles tomorrow night.
To add insult to injury, the Friars announced yesterday that they’ve suspended freshmen Brandon Austin and Rodney Bullock from game action for academic reasons.
Ed Cooley issued the following statement: “We hold our student-athletes to very high standards,” Cooley said. “We are disappointed in some of the choices that Brandon and Rodney have made. Due to this, we have decided to suspend them indefinitely from any game action.”
The two players are, however, still allowed to practice while under suspension.
Ready or not, the Friars will host BC at the Dunk tomorrow night at 6pm.
The Friars should have a chip on their shoulder after losing to the Eagles at Conte Forum last season by a score of 71-68. BC was led by Ryan Anderson, who compiled 24 points in the win.
Anderson, now a junior, will be a player to watch, as the 6’9″ forward is one of the Eagles’ top offensive threats.
On the other side of the ball, the Friars will presumably look to Josh Fortune to play a big role with Dunn out.
The Friars will need other players to step up too, as last year’s Big East scoring leader Bryce Cotton (knee) is reportedly not fully healthy either.
